Yesterday I got invited and had a chance to help set up my best friend's daughter's quinceanera. It was a beautiful day; they held it in the University Of Washington Arboretum Foundation Botanic Garden. It was a stunning park with beautiful trees and tall flowers.
I always thought quinceanera was a big celebration, glamourous with the whole village invited; this culture has similarity with where I come from, Indonesia. Our celebration of coming of age is always significant and always extravagant celebration which the whole village is invited, and the neighboring village will be there too. I may be exaggerated, or even more so, but this celebration is always a momentous event for both cultures. And for the young girls, this is what they're waiting for, to have the birthday party they've been dreaming of.
This untraditional quinceanera, foremost, was lovely and intimate, with only several close friends invited. It is not always the more extensive event that is fun or better. But, sometimes, small and intimate gatherings give us a chance to enjoy the experience genuinely and give the guests a chance to enjoy each other company. At the same time, the party was relatively small but beautiful and enjoyable nonetheless.
The theme was a Cottage Core with green, gold, white, and purplish colors; the place and the pavilion were genuinely unique and beautiful perfect for the event; the envisioned decor resembled the cottage core design of the Edwardian period. Complete with the ladies' pastimes activities in the era, painting. Sounds boring? Nope, we were all having fun and having a good time, and the food was delicious.
The crochet tablecloth was beautiful against gold dinnerware and green plates, and the color was harmonious. And if you pay close attention, both tables have slightly different settings, yet each is still uniquely beautiful in its design. I guess we learned something new today: the table setting; even though it is not perfectly matched, as long as the color matches and coordinates well, it will still look beautiful.
